Clock holder
Description
Pocket watch holder
Four wooden columns with brass plates, dome consists of a quarter of a sphere with an engraved metal top. Wooden base with brass fittings, painted black.
Such clock holders were usually used in bedrooms, which at that time (19th century) were normally unheated. If the pocket watch had been placed on the bedside table, it would have cooled down more quickly, which would be detrimental to accuracy.
